William James Dixon (Willie Dixon) was born  in Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 1, 1915 and died January 29, 1992.  He is best known as a blues bassist, singer and song writer, as well as being a record producer and arranger.    Along with Muddy Waters he was one of the most influential post war (World War II) blues musicians of the Chicago music scene.  He is an important link between blues and rock and roll working with Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry.  Artists such as Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan have covered his music.  Muddy Waters, Howlin Wold and Little Walter have also performed music by him during 1950-1965.

In 1994 Willie Dixon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Early Influences Category.

Willie Dixon died in 1992 of heart failure and has been buried on Burr Oak Cemetery in Illinois.
